Start of the new year means increases in a lot of areas. Small businesses are taking the majority of the impact with the minimum wage increase in Illinois, which went from $8.75 an hour to $9.25 on January 1.
KHQA spoke with Jeff Scott on how the increase is impacting his business, Scotties Fun Spot in Quincy. Scott has to employ about 800 hours a week of part time college and high school students. They are now having to now close on Wednesdays because of the increase.
"I think it's going to be tough for all small business owners in the area with minimum wage jobs, so just trying to watch the checks and balances with the minimum wage increase, keep prices at the right price and keep people local," said Scott.
